Babies

Last week I was given the gift of a night to myself. Ken stayed home with the kids, and actually put them to sleep on his own for the first time ever. I was a bit nervous as Isaac still nurses to sleep, but I knew he would be OK (he was in fact more than OK, the little monkey slept until 1am when he woke up to nurse). I joined my mom, Shannon (my doula when I had Isaac), a friend from my university days who I hadn't seen in a long time and some other girls for a movie night. We went to see the movie "Babies". Of course mom and I arrived late just as the previews were ending (it was hard to get out the door, so many last minute instructions, which I'm sure Ken didn't need, I just needed peace of mind I suppose!), but in time to see the movie from the start. Right from the beginning I was enthralled. The entire movie was so well done, so thought provoking and it really put things into perspective for me. I will not spoil it for you, but I just have to say that we really do live in a bubble...so protected from so many realities, so many things that happen every second of every day in other parts of the world that we take for granted here in our privileged society. I came home a changed mother. Really, I did. If you have the time to go and see this movie I highly recommend it! Or you could wait until it's released to rent. Either way, you have to check it out!

  1. I totally agree Kat. It's so funny living in North America there are so many things that you "MUST" do or should "NEVER" do... It really makes you think about all these rules we put upon ourselves. I think I want to purchase this when it's out on DVD so that I can remind myself of it through my journey as a parent when it comes... It's definitely a must see for every parent or parent-to-be. :)
